Patients In London Start The New Year With A New Smile

January 10th, 2013

If your smile is something that has always got you down for one reason or another such as not being white enough or not looking as perfect as everyone else’s, then why not treat yourself to a smile makeover and start the new year as you mean to go on, with a fantastic smile.

Smile makeover treatment

A smile makeover is where veneers are used to transform your current smile into a dazzling one than no one will forget. Veneers are thin sheets of porcelain, which are shaped and coloured to look exactly like regular teeth, that are placed on top of current teeth to make them look that whole lot better, and give you that little confidence boost that you may be lacking.

Porcelain veneers

Veneers themselves are an incredibly popular treatment in today’s society, with many Hollywood actors and actresses, models and a whole plethora of other stars having them done to give them those dazzling red carpet smiles.

The procedure itself is very straightforward and requires you to have small pieces of your tooth’s surface structure removed to create space for the new veneers. After this your dentist will take impressions of your teeth so your veneers can be created to your exact requirements. Whilst you wait for these custom made veneers to make their way to you, you will be fitted with temporary ones. Once yours are ready these will be removed and yours will be applied and bonded to your teeth using a strong adhesive.

Veneers are also helpful for other dental problems like chipped, discoloured, crooked or gapped teeth.

All this is done in just two sessions and they can last for several years, your dentist will advise you on how long you can expect them to last. However they can get damaged just like normal teeth, but small issues can be repaired. If you are interested in our cosmetic dentistry treatments then contact the team at Devonshire Square Dental Studio in the heart of London and get on the road to a whiter, brighter smile.

Veneer Treatments For A New Look And Smile For Patients In London

December 15th, 2012

Dentistry is one of the few professions which isn’t  in some way, dogged by nostalgia. Whilst music fans may long for vinyl records and the days when MTV still played music, few people are ever heard wishing we could return to the days before anaesthetics or when movie stars removed all their teeth so they could wear flashy dentures. The Hollywood starlets of today, thank goodness, have a much less extreme path to pearly whites: Veneers! Many celebrities from current music starlets to Hollywood actors wear them, but what exactly are they?

What are Veneers?

Just as in carpentry where a veneer can spruce up a slightly dull looking table, so a dental veneer can spruce up slightly dulled teeth. Veneers are essentially wafer thin shells of material which are bonded to your teeth. They can cover up any blemishes and can instantly give the appearance of a perfect smile. They are often referred to as the mouth’s equivalent of false nails.

Porcelain or composite?

Veneers tend to be made of either porcelain or composite material, but we at Devonshire Square Smile Studio in the city of London recommend porcelain veneers. Porcelain veneers are more natural in appearance, are less prone to staining and more resilient than composite veneers. Composite veneers are cheaper, but their lack of durability can make porcelain veneers more economic in the long run.

What are veneers best suited for?

If your teeth are stained, damaged or plagued by unsightly gaps, then veneers might be just the thing for you! Although not ideal, they can also be used to cover up mildly crooked teeth in a process nicknamed ‘instant orthodontics’.

A typical procedure

Following a consultation, your teeth will need to be prepared for the veneers; a miniscule part of your teeth’s front surface will have to be shaved off in order to accommodate the veneers. An imprint of your teeth will then be fashioned, which will be posted to a lab. The lab will then produce your veneers, which may take a few weeks. Whilst you wait for the veneers proper, you will most likely be fitted with temporary ones. This isn’t always necessary however, as the treatment is quite minor. Once the real deal arrives, your veneers will then be properly fitted.

Overhaul Your Teeth and Gain New Confidence With A Smile Makeover In London

October 13th, 2012

If you have teeth in your smile zone that are discoloured or misaligned, they may be improved with porcelain veneers for the ultimate smile makeover. Celebrities and renowned personalities gain that star-like quality through having smile makeovers, such as with porcelain veneers. Nowadays, smile makeovers are affordable and accessible for all to have glam appeal and a perfect smile. Let’s look more closely at one of the smile makeover options available.

Porcelain veneers

Porcelain veneers are ultra-thin laminated porcelain shields custom-made to fit over an individual’s teeth matching size, shape and colour. Any dental irregularities, such as tooth discolouration and misalignment, may be masked with porcelain veneers for a sculpted finish.

Investing in the latest technologies, materials and techniques, cosmetic dentists are offering individuals choices in porcelain veneers to correct minor tooth chips, wear, crookedness and gaps. Made to look just like natural teeth, porcelain veneers are bonded to existing tooth surface after minimal preparation for a flawless look.

Fine and thin in design, porcelain veneers are remarkably durable, giving added strength to the tooth surface by protecting the underlying dental enamel. Veneers are similar to normal teeth in that they may wear or become damaged. One or more veneers may be fitted depending on needs, and are easily replaced.

Teeth are initially prepared and dental impressions with images are taken so that the porcelain veneers may be made to perfectly fit over existing teeth. Temporary veneers are fitted while the permanent veneers are made bespoke for a person’s needs. When ready, the temporary veneers are removed and the permanent ones are bonded to underlying teeth using dental adhesive. After approximately two weeks, the dentist evaluates the veneers and polishes them for final finish.

Individuals benefit from the appearance-enhancing quality of veneers, boosting confidence with a beautiful smile. Porcelain veneers are usually the smile makeover of choice over composite white filler and crowns. Patients From London Are Treated To A Hollywood Smile

August 18th, 2012

It’s that easy to have sparkly teeth. The treatment is named in reference to our favourite Hollywood celebrities who always seem to be sporting these almost unnaturally healthy smiles which gleam with more shine than the flash of the paparazzi camera. In fact, it’s getting harder and harder to spot a celebrity who doesn’t have a perfect set of teeth these days. Why? Because there are so many treatments available nowadays to enhance, correct and perfect a person’s teeth, not only for oral health reasons but for aesthetic reasons too. Treatments include teeth whitening procedures, laser gum sculpting, invisible braces and much more but we’re going to look at veneers in particular.

Veneer treatment for that Hollywood smile

A veneer is a wafer thin almost shield like covering made from composite plastic or porcelain. As with other composite materials, a composite veneer can be colour matched using a shade guide to fit in with the rest of the teeth so that you don’t end up with impossibly white teeth that look cartoonish. It’s no good after all, having a perfect smile if it doesn’t even look remotely natural as this will just detract from the intended results. Unfortunately they tend to stain more than Porcelain veneers.

Porcelain Veneers

Porcelain veneers are also stronger and much more durable and therefore last longer than the composite veneers. Because they need replacing less, this means they could end up saving you money in the long run, despite costing more. Porcelain veneers last between 5-10 years compared to the drastically shorter 1-2 year life span of the composites. It is important to note that not all dentists specialise in cosmetic dentistry so it’s important that if you want veneers and the perfect Hollywood smile to find a practice where cosmetic dentistry is the main forte. We offer Hollywood smiles at Devonshire Square Dental Clinic in London so do contact us for more information.

Patients in London Get a Smile Makeover for Beautiful Teeth

July 14th, 2012

A smile makeover can be used for a number of reasons, it can be to instantly give the appearance of straight, white teeth or it can be used to cover gaps between teeth. In fact there is a wide range of situations in which a smile makeover can be beneficial.

What treatments are used?

The most common treatment used during a smile makeover is the addition of porcelain veneers. Veneers are wafer thin sections of porcelain that are attached to the front of the existing tooth, or teeth. They will be carefully made so that they blend in with the natural teeth. In addition to having veneers fitted it is common for the natural teeth to be whitened in order to create a healthier, whiter smile.

What problems can veneers be used to cover?

Veneers can be used to cover a wide range of complaints such as chipped or broken teeth and can be used on heavily stained teeth. They can also be used on worn or crooked teeth as well as being able to hide gaps between teeth.

How long does the smile makeover take?

On average a smile makeover will require two visits to the dentist. This will usually be a week or so apart. During the first visit the dentist will prepare the teeth and take an impression of the mouth in order to create the veneers. In some cases temporary veneers will be fitted at the first visit to protect the teeth, however it is not always required. The second visit will be when the permanent veneers are fitted.

How long do veneers last?

Veneers just like normal teeth can chip or break however in most cases they are expected to last for 5 to 7 years.

Cosmetic Bonding is the Ideal Treatment for Eroded Teeth for Patients in the City of London

June 23rd, 2012

If you have acid eroded teeth then you’ve probably considered treatments such as veneers or crowns to help you achieve your perfect smile. However, a faster and more cost effective option may be cosmetic bonding, which can restore your smile in one visit, for a fraction of the cost of veneers and crowns.

What is cosmetic bonding?

Cosmetic bonding is made up of resin, which once it has set becomes very resilient. Cosmetic bonding can be used to treat numerous instances of dental damage, including tooth decay, chipped teeth and broken teeth.

The procedure itself is pretty straightforward. First of all your dentist will mix the cosmetic bonding material so that it is at the right consistency and colour, in order for it to match your teeth. The tooth that requires bonding is then prepared, which involves working on the surface of the tooth to make it rougher so that the bonding can grip on to it firmly. The bonding is then applied to the tooth and sculpted into the ideal tooth shape. Finally a dental laser is used to make the cosmetic bonding turn into a solid through the use of the laser’s heat, after which your tooth will be buffed until it lies in perfect line with the rest of your tooth and looks completely natural.

The use of cosmetic bonding is both durable and effective and works just as well as other cosmetic procedures but for a fraction of the price, making your teeth whole once again.

If you would like to discuss the best option for the restoration of a chipped, fractured, eroded or broken tooth then please feel free to call the practice today. We provided general and cosmetic dental services for patients throughout the City of London and beyond and will be happy to help with whatever dental problem you have.

A Smile in London Tells You a Story and a Half

April 7th, 2012

Of all the human expressions, a smile is the one that is easily and most commonly displayed. It is an expression that indicates happiness, a friendly attitude and a desire to communicate with the person receiving the smile. A smile is the most common expression in London and the world over, and is also an expression that most of us are very conscious about.

If you have been a regular smoker, then you may want to hide your stained teeth and this is sure to make you uncomfortable every time you smile. There are other factors as well that could make your smile imperfect. These problems could have been with your since birth or may have developed as you grow and for some it could have happened due to an unfortunate accident. The shape of your teeth matter greatly when you smile, so if they are crowded, crooked or chipped, your smile may look less than its best.

Cosmetic dentistry has been fixing smiles for many years now and has some excellent solutions for people who want to make their smile perfect. Investing in a perfect smile can have a direct impact on your relationships, employment or business and the overall quality of life. Crooked and crowded teeth can be fixed with braces, while stained teeth can be brightened using various teeth whitening techniques or by applying porcelain veneers.

When it comes to visiting a dentist, most people are either scared of the procedures or the high costs that could be involved. However, this is just a perception rather than reality and the fact is, with the developments that have been made in the dental world, procedures and treatments have become increasingly painless and cost effective.

Top Smile Makeover Treatments Available to Patients from London

March 31st, 2012

One of the most popular treatments at the moment in cosmetic dentistry is a smile makeover. This can involve a wide variety of procedures designed to improve your smile and can mean different things to different people.

The most common assumption is that the treatment is always aimed at getting that perfect ‘Hollywood’ smile, but many patients simply want to make improvements on their current look. This could be a teeth-whitening procedure or the replacement of amalgam fillings with composite or porcelain.

For patients from London wanting a celebrity smile the treatment can involve porcelain veneers. This is similar to a false fingernail, which is placed on top of the teeth, usually for aesthetic purposes. They are held in place by a strong glue-like bonding agent and help make the teeth look healthy and natural. They can also improve the position and shape of your smile.

The dentist initially removes a very thin sliver of the enamel on the outside of the tooth and then makes a mould of the mouth. The patient is then given a temporary veneer to wear until the permanent one is made. This procedure is usually completed within two hours.

Chemical teeth whitening can be done at different levels and for different costs. One of the lowest cost options is a home whitening kit. This involves placing a gel into a tray, which you can wear in your sleep or for a few hours during the day. This is cheaper but takes up more time and is not as effective as procedures undertaken by your dental practitioner.

Whitening treatment can also be done using a chemical bleaching technique that can take several visits to complete. Another treatment becoming more popular in recent years is a one-hour ‘power whitening’ procedure. Gums and lips are covered and then a gel is applied to your teeth. A light is then shone on the teeth to activate the gel, penetrating the teeth and breaking up stains and discolouration.

One thing is for sure: whatever level you choose and whatever your reasons for having it done, studies show that recipients of such treatment are much more confident with their smile.

Porcelain is Lighting Up the Smiles of Patients from London

March 8th, 2012

Once used just for the replacement of damaged teeth, porcelain crowns are now being used for perfecting smiles of patients from London. Gaps between the teeth or crooked teeth have a major effect on their self-esteem; however, both of these problems can be fixed with the help of porcelain crowns. The smile is the most important facial expression and being insecure about the look of your smile can seriously damage your self-confidence and self-worth. This can have a major negative impact on the overall quality of life. Many may have lost key jobs due to their lack of self-confidence caused by their imperfect smiles and for many this may have been a major obstacle in starting a relationship.

Porcelain crowns are very easy to fit and begin with the dentist examining your mouth and finding what is needed to help you achieve the perfect smile. The dentist will then give you the best recommendations and you can together develop a plan.

Once a plan is finalised, the dentist will then take a mould of your teeth, which will be the guide for the dentist and the lab in regards to the size and the shape of the teeth they design for you.  Once the crowns are made you will need to visit the dentist again in order to receive the crowns.  At this point the dentist will shave down the teeth that will be fitted with the crown. The shaving will make the teeth smaller and will also give them the necessary surface texture required to effectively bond with the crown. Once the teeth are cleaned the crowns will then be bonded to the teeth. Once completely bonded, your teeth will look natural and you will be able to drink and eat as usual.

The shade of porcelain is carefully selected to match the shade of the existing teeth, which will make them look very natural and unnoticeable. Once the process is complete, not only will your smile become attractive, but it will also help your confidence, giving you the courage to speak face to face with people. With increased confidence and a bright smile, you will be able to achieve more than earlier and will see an increase in the quality of your life.

Gallagher Gets Bright Smile to Go With Beady Eyes

April 6th, 2011

Mancunian musician, Liam Gallagher might have had a rather public break from rock legends Oasis, but that doesn’t mean he’s left the music business completely. His new band, ‘Beady Eye’ (which also includes Gem Archer and Andy Bell, both formerly of Oasis) are currently running a campaign to promote their public image and spread their name and the bands manager has decided the time is right for Liam to get some much needed cosmetic dentistry done.

The grizzled looking celeb has undergone cosmetic dentistry, rumoured to be on his new manager’s orders. The new gnashers cost a whooping £7,000 and included the changing of old, grey fillings for more spotlight friendly white ones and new porcelain veneers to straighten out that crooked smile that was never quite the same since the emergency dental work after a bar brawl in Munich back in 2003.

Liam’s image to change?

The image change has been said to make Liam more “America friendly”, in the hopes that, if the band make it big in the US, Gallagher’s teeth don’t get Beady Eye into the media for the wrong reasons and perhaps points to an image change from the Manchester boys from their grizzled grime original image.

Liam’s estranged brother, Noel, is also said to have had some cosmetic dental work done during Oasis’ heyday back in the 90s and has been much quieter with future music related work, although a solo career is rumoured to be in the works.

Beady Eye will be touring in Britain and Ireland in April of this year, beginning in Nottingham on Monday the 11th.
