The Rise Of Cosmetic Dentistry In The Heart Of London

September 18th, 2012

Cosmetic dentistry is a dentistry discipline that focuses not only on restoring dental function, but doing so in a manner that enhances dental and facial aesthetics. Many celebrities undergo cosmetic dentistry to have a perfect smile. Renowned models, actors and actresses, and personalities depend on cosmetic dentistry care to maintain their star-status and image.

Popularity of Cosmetic Dentistry

The popularity of cosmetic dentistry has soured as the general public are engrossed in reality shows and being able to achieve celebrity glam through customised cosmetic dentistry care.

Advancements in mobile technologies have allowed wider communities access to the life changing benefits of cosmetic dentistry. New apps allow any person to be able to see before and after cosmetic dentistry images of themselves. Dentists are investing in latest technologies for enhanced results and more affordable cosmetic dentistry care.

Dental insurance and finance firms are providing choices in financing and products that makes cosmetic dentistry affordable for more people. As the National Health Service (NHS) does not cover cosmetic dentistry care, private cosmetic dentistry practices are offering favourable treatment packages and payment options giving greater access.

Another driving force is dental tourism, where individuals in one country may travel to another to receive quality cosmetic dentistry care at lower costs. Treatment facilities are offering holiday packages in luxury resorts where cosmetic dentistry treatment may be received.

Impact of Cosmetic Dentistry

Nowadays, with innovative cosmetic dentistry technology, procedures and materials, individuals have diverse treatment options to choose from and may look just like their celebrity counterparts. Cosmetic dentistry treatments include teeth whitening, veneers, dental restorations and entire smile makeovers.

People having cosmetic dentistry treatment feel better about their appearance and experience greater confidence in their self-image. The rise in cosmetic dentistry is due to happy clients embracing life opportunities made possible through transforming treatments, products and services.

If you would like to look at any cosmetic dentistry treatments do not hesitate to contact us at Devonshire Square Dental Studio in London.

Patients From London Are Treated To A Hollywood Smile

August 18th, 2012

It’s that easy to have sparkly teeth. The treatment is named in reference to our favourite Hollywood celebrities who always seem to be sporting these almost unnaturally healthy smiles which gleam with more shine than the flash of the paparazzi camera. In fact, it’s getting harder and harder to spot a celebrity who doesn’t have a perfect set of teeth these days. Why? Because there are so many treatments available nowadays to enhance, correct and perfect a person’s teeth, not only for oral health reasons but for aesthetic reasons too. Treatments include teeth whitening procedures, laser gum sculpting, invisible braces and much more but we’re going to look at veneers in particular.

Veneer treatment for that Hollywood smile

A veneer is a wafer thin almost shield like covering made from composite plastic or porcelain. As with other composite materials, a composite veneer can be colour matched using a shade guide to fit in with the rest of the teeth so that you don’t end up with impossibly white teeth that look cartoonish. It’s no good after all, having a perfect smile if it doesn’t even look remotely natural as this will just detract from the intended results. Unfortunately they tend to stain more than Porcelain veneers.

Porcelain Veneers

Porcelain veneers are also stronger and much more durable and therefore last longer than the composite veneers. Because they need replacing less, this means they could end up saving you money in the long run, despite costing more. Porcelain veneers last between 5-10 years compared to the drastically shorter 1-2 year life span of the composites. It is important to note that not all dentists specialise in cosmetic dentistry so it’s important that if you want veneers and the perfect Hollywood smile to find a practice where cosmetic dentistry is the main forte. We offer Hollywood smiles at Devonshire Square Dental Clinic in London so do contact us for more information.

Pros and Cons of Teeth Whitening Treatment for Patients in London

August 9th, 2012

Teeth whitening treatment is the practice of restoring teeth to their natural, whiter colour.  Lots of factors affect the hue and colour of a person’s teeth as they age, from natural decay and alterations in the chemical structure to more first hand influences like smoking and the consumption of certain foods and drinks which can stain the teeth. Aesthetically this can be quite bothersome and in a lot of cases can make a person feel self-conscious or lack esteem, especially in the growing age of the Hollywood smile.

There are however pros and cons in regards to teeth whitening, and as with all decisions, it’s important to weigh them up before jumping straight in. After all, this is your mouth we’re talking about.

What are the pros and cons?

Pros:

  • A boost in esteem; having a winning smile that you are proud to show off can do wonders for your self-conscience, leading to a happier, healthy outlook in life.
  • A Simple process; with many at-home teeth whitening kits and over the counter products, teeth whitening can be both simple and affordable.
  • Safe Treatment; with dental assisted teeth whitening procedures there is little to no risk. Though of course, still be sensible and avoid non-professionals and the inexperienced.

Cons:

  • Weakening of the enamel; unfortunately, some of the chemicals used in certain teeth whitening procedures can weaken the enamel over time leading to problems.
  • Side effects; a downside to teeth whitening is that you might experience sensitive teeth, sore gums and other symptoms.

These pros and cons should definitely give you something to think about if you are indeed considering teeth whitening and it’s important to make sure that you don’t decide on anything until you are 100% confident in the decision that you have made. We have teeth whitening treatments and Devonshire Square Dental Clinic in London so contact us today for more information.

How The Inman Aligner Differs From Invisible Braces For Patients In London

August 9th, 2012

The Inman Aligner is a revolutionary and simple utility that aligns the front teeth both quickly and safely. It can do this in as little as six to sixteen weeks. Though sometimes mistaken or confused with invisible braces, they differ in numerous ways. The Inman Aligner for example is used mainly on the front teeth, whereas Invisible braces can be used to treat the full arches (all of your teeth).

Other differences

Another difference is that Invisible Braces are made up of a specialised plastic which can’t apply as much pressure compared to the Inman Aligner, and this is why treatments using invisible braces can take an extended period of time (up to six months) to reap any results. The Inman Aligner doesn’t suffer from this as it creates a lot more pressure on the teeth due to the nature of its tiny Nickel Titanium springs. This causes a much higher amount of tension and in turn straightens the teeth in far less time than the Invisible Braces would take. Because of this, the Inman Aligner treatment is much less expensive too.

More on the Inman aligner

With the Invisible braces and other orthodontic treatments frequent visits to the dentist are unfortunately part of the course and this can get quite tedious. The Inman Aligner on the other hand is pre-programmed to reduce the amount of these visits,  allowing you to live your life a lot more freely, without a visit to the dentist around the corner of every passing week. This lease of life is also compounded by the fact that, in comparison to invisible braces, the Inman Aligner’s are very easy to remove, taking just seconds. This allows the wearer to eat when and as they want, without having to worry about a lengthy preparation process. For more information on the Inman aligner braces system please contact our team in London today.

A White Smile for Any Occasion for Patients in London

July 25th, 2012

If you are preparing for a special occasion, such as a wedding, you will want to look your best. Thanks to celebrity influence more and more people are opting to have their teeth whitened. This not only improves the look of your smile but increases a person’s self confidence.

What are the options?

There are two main options when it comes to tooth whitening. It can either be done at a dental practice or cosmetic surgery by means of in office treatment or at home treatments. Or it can be done with ‘over the counter’ products available from supermarkets and online retailers.

In Office Options

The in office options are much more expensive than any other options, but they do yield faster results and are carried out by trained professionals. There are usually two ways it can be done, either an intensive treatment using a special light to speed up the process. This option can usually whiten teeth by around 5-6 shades in a single session. Or it can be done more gradually over a course of sessions that can span a few weeks.

Professional at Home Treatments

If you have limited time, or would rather not spend any unnecessary time in the dental hot seat then your dental professional can provide you with an at home kit. This kit will usually take around two weeks to complete and can lighten teeth by around 5 shades.

Over the Counter at Home Kits

Products that can be purchased over the counter or via online sites have wildly varying results. Some are so weak in the active bleaching ingredients that will do little to nothing to change the shade of your teeth. While other may be overly strong and can cause burns to the gums, throat and mouth. Although this is the cheapest option is it also the least reliable.

How Can Patients from London Straighten Their Teeth Without Wires and Brackets

July 21st, 2012

If you need to have your teeth straightened due to misalignment, spacing or overcrowding it can be very off -putting to be faced with 12 to 18 months worth of metal mouth smiles. Although conventional braces do work very well they are also very unsightly.

Invisible alternative to metal braces

Thanks to modern technology there are not a number of ways you can undergo tooth straightening without having to have a mouth full of obvious metal. One of the best ways to achieve a straighter, healthier looking smile is by using Invisalign braces.

What are Invisalign Braces?

Invisalign braces are a series of removable clear aligners that are used to gently reposition your teeth. Anyone can use this type of brace and because they are made from clear plastic they are almost impossible to see. Generally unless you tell someone you are wearing them they will not know you are undergoing treatment.

How long does treatment take?

The average treatment time is the same as it is for conventional metal braces, around 12 to 18 months. The aligners will need to be worn for at least 21 hours every day, however they can be removed for special events and whilst eating and drinking.

Do they hurt?

It is common for there to be some discomfort for the first few days whilst the mouth adjusts to them. However they will not damage your gums or cheeks in any way as they are carefully moulded and smooth. The only thing you will feel on a contestant basis is the sensation of slight pressure on the teeth. This is normal and means that they are working.

Are there any side effects to having Invisalign Braces?

As with any braces the speech may be affected for a few days. Once the mouth has become accustom to them this will settle itself out and everything should be back to normal within a few days to a week at the most.

The Invisible Way to Straighten Your Teeth for Patients in London

July 10th, 2012

Conventional braces are unsightly and the older you get the less willing you will be to have them fitted. However there is another way to produce the same results without the treatment being noticed by anyone, unless you tell them.

Invisalign is a relatively new concept and is based around a series of removable clear aligners. On average around 20 to 30 sets of aligners, per arch, are used to straighten most dental issues; however this may be longer if the misalignment is very severe.

How do they work?

The aligners will need to be worn at all times, except whilst eating and drinking. However they can be removed and left out if you are attending a special event or function. Before any treatment begins your dental professional will assess your situation and general dental health. If you are suitable for this type of treatment then impressions and photos will be taken of your teeth. This is to ensure that each set of aligners fits correctly and adjusts the tenths placement a little at a time.

During the course of the treatment, usually around 12 to 18 months, you will need to have a series of check-ups. This is so that your dental professional can check your progress and provide you with the next set of aligners.

At the beginning of the treatment you may feel some discomfort but this will disappear in a day or so. Similarly is speech is affected this will also settle down and disappear in a few days. You will feel pressure from the aligners; this is normal and proves they are working; however they will not harm your gums or checks in any way.

Invisalign braces can be used to correct a range of aesthetic dental complaints such as overcrowding, spacing, overbite, under bite and cross bites as well as misaligned teeth.

Wedding Day Smiles-Whitening Your Teeth in Time for the Big Day in the City of London

May 10th, 2012

There are many things to prepare for before a wedding. In the run-up to the big event, with all the stress and anxiety that comes with it, there is no need to feel even more worried due to your smile. Wedding photos are how people remember their important day, and the best thing you can do for your wedding day snaps is to show off your beautiful smile! If you are feeling self-conscious about your teeth, or that your smile is not worth showing off, tooth whitening treatments may be the perfect way to restore your confidence, so that looking happy in photos of the big occasion need not be a worry.

Why do teeth discolour?

Tooth whitening involves bleaching the teeth after they have become darker or stained. This discolouration is, to some degree, a natural part of growing older, as the mineral structure of teeth changes due to aging. However, the discolouration of teeth can be increased by smoking, as well as consuming certain foods and drinks, particularly tea and coffee. It can also be caused by bacterial build-up, as a result of poor oral hygiene.

How does teeth whitening work?

The ‘at-home whitening’ procedure involves the use of custom-built bleaching trays for your teeth. These should be worn on the teeth for around six hours a day, for between five and fourteen days, in order to see the best results – so some preparation time is needed before the wedding day. The chemicals used are oxidising agents, which can penetrate tooth enamel, due to its porous nature, in order to bleach internal stains. Eventually, the dentine (the tooth layer under enamel) also becomes bleached. The effects of this can last several months for teeth whitening patients in the City of London. The whitening agents should lighten your teeth, but not affect the colour of fillings or most other materials used to restore teeth.
