Modern Braces Available Here For Patients In London

November 6th, 2012

Braces have come a long way from the wire & elastic variety that haunted 80’s teenage movies in America. Here are just a few of the more modern brace systems available at Devonshire Square Dental Studio in the city of London.

Invisalign Braces

Invisalign braces are practically unnoticeable, meaning you can achieve a naturally straight smile incognito. They consist of a series of removable aligners made from clear plastic. Aside from no one knowing you’re having orthodontic treatment, Invisalign braces are more comfortable than their fixed, wire & elastic, counterparts, which can inflame and irritate one’s gums. They are also a touch more convenient, as you can take them out before eating and bypass the common issue of getting food trapped between your braces. The ability to take Invisalign out also aids with maintaining good oral hygiene, something important which can become complicated with fixed braces.

Lingual Braces

Great as being able to remove a braces is, it can open up the Pandora’s Box that is human error: Most removable braces need to be worn for between 20 and 22 hours and if you forget, the next aligner in your treatment might not fit. Forgetting to put them back on one night could delay your treatment drastically. If you fancy a fixed brace, but one that is camouflaged, then you might be interested in Lingual braces. ‘Lingual’ is Latin for close to the tongue, and that is exactly what these braces are: They are fitted on the inside of your teeth, closer to the tongue, keeping them out of sight.

Inman Aligner

Orthodontic treatment doesn’t end once your brace is off. It is recommended you wear a retainer for up to a year after you finishing brace treatment and, predictably, relapses during this period are quite common. The Inman Aligner is a fast working device optimised to correct teeth, particularly the front teeth, following a relapse. Utilising a unique coil & bow system, the Inman Aligner can have your teeth straight after six to eighteen weeks (which is a doddle compared to the three years that standard orthodontic treatment can take).

Lingual Braces Explained For Patients In The City Of London

September 25th, 2012

Lingual braces are a modern orthodontic braces system for those in need of mild teeth straightening solutions. Available in standard or STb Social 6 systems, Lingual braces fix to the rear of teeth so that they are not noticeable to others during treatment.

Ideal for those with misaligned teeth and teeth that are overcrowded, skew, protruding or with irregular gaps, Lingual braces reposition teeth through gentle orthodontic force within a period of approximately sixteen weeks.

How they work

The purpose of Lingual braces that comprise brackets and wires is to allow comfortable oral movement while discretely controlling orthodontic re-alignment. Using innovative self-ligating technology, this dental braces solution straightens teeth comfortably within a shorter time.

Patients may enjoy smile transforming results as early as six weeks while their dental function simultaneously improves. These braces may be worn while eating and are easily cleaned during normal oral hygiene schedules.

Without having to worry about removing the braces system, these self-ligating braces are easy to adjust and provide smooth function in the mouth. Initial adjustment sensations are temporary as the system fits into oral contours and movements.

How do Lingual braces differ from traditional ones?

Lingual braces are a modern solution without elastic bands or ligatures. Smaller in design and more aesthetically-pleasing, Lingual braces use a slide mechanism that supports the archwire and gently repositions teeth without discomfort.

Patients may find out more about Lingual braces with self-ligating systems by contacting a dentist. If appropriate for orthodontic needs, Lingual braces may be recommended.

Dentists discuss all aspects of Lingual braces with patients so that they fully understand what their treatment plan aims to achieve and how the braces system works in their specific case. If Lingual braces are not suitable, such as for more severe Orthodontic conditions, alternative modern braces solutions may be discussed. The Magic of Lingual Braces for Patients in London

August 30th, 2012

Lingual braces are specifically designed to be discrete. They work in exactly the same capacity as normal braces and will still correct and straighten your teeth but with the added benefit of being practically invisible. This is because the lingual brace is comprised of small arches and wires that are bonded to the back of the teeth, out of view and hidden from sight.

Who are lingual braces useful for and why?

Lingual braces are perfect for anybody who wants to undergo a teeth straightening procedure but wants to go about it in a way that is discrete and doesn’t call attention to it. As mentioned before, the lingual braces are perfect for discretion as they work behind the teeth out of sight. However, another added benefit to this ‘behind the stage curtain’ design is that you’re still able to keep good oral hygiene.

Oral hygiene

Brushing your teeth is easy to do because the lingual braces do not interfere in any way whatsoever. This means that there’s no necessity for a change in routine as brushing continues as normal. This is important as brushing and maintaining good oral care is absolutely pivotal in maintaining a happy, healthy mouth and keeping infections and diseases far at bay.

Other advantages

Lingual braces are also not removable. Now at first that might sound frightening and permanent, but it’s actually a good thing, as it means that you can eat and drink without having to worry about taking them out and cleaning them. This is perfect for a person wanting to be discrete as it means that they don’t have to make any excuses to leave the table before or after enjoying a meal with company.

Lingual braces are a little but more expensive, but worth it for the discretion they allow. For more advice on lingual braces please contact the team at Devonshire Square Dental in London.

Patients in Central London Looking to Straighten Their Teeth without Wires or Brackets Should Try Invisalign Invisible Braces

June 30th, 2012

The Invisalign system is one of the main innovations of modern orthodontics, providing effective tooth straightening invisibly.

In the past patients from Central London and throughout the UK had to suffer the stigma and discomfort of fixed brackets and wires, which instantly drew attention to their mouth and teeth. Thankfully, today clear aligners, such as those used during the Invisalign treatment, are used to straighten teeth, creating beautiful, straight smiles without the embarrassment of metal attachments.

How does Invisalign work?

The Invisalign system involves the use of several clear aligners (generally between 18-30), which are replaced every two weeks with a new and differently aligned clear aligner. This graduation from one aligner shape to the next gradually moves the teeth into their new position, without the need for wires or brackets.

How are Invisalign aligners made?

First impressions and images will be taken of your teeth, which will be sent to the Invisalign laboratories. There, they not only make your set of personalised aligners, but also show you how your teeth will look after your treatment is complete, which your dentist will show you using the Clini Check system.

How long does Invisalign take to straighten my teeth?

Invisalign can be used to treat a range of orthodontic conditions, including crooked teeth, gapped teeth, twisted teeth and overbites and generally the time it takes to straighten your teeth will vary between 9-24 months depending on the severity of your orthodontic condition.

The length of your treatment will be discussed during your consultation.

What are the main benefits of Invisalign?

  • Treatment is completely invisible and no one will see that you are having your teeth straightened.
  • The aligners are removable, so you can take them out to eat and clean your teeth, ensuring that your oral health is kept at its very best.
  • As there are no wires or attachment and due to the lower forces used with Invisalign you will not experience the sore, ulcers and discomfort most fixed brace wearing encounter.

Patients in London can Experience Straighter Teeth in 8 Weeks with the Inman Aligner

June 12th, 2012

The Inman Aligner is a brilliant alternative to traditional fixed orthodontic appliances to help you straighten out your teeth and provide you with the perfect smile. With the Inman Aligner there is no need for metal wires or long treatment periods as they work quickly to realign your teeth in as little as 8 weeks!

Stages of Inman Aligner Treatment

There are three different stages of treatment with the Inman Aligner, these are:

Stage one: You will have your initial consultation to discuss whether the Inman Aligner is the best treatment option for you. You will have photographs of your smile taken and assessed to work out your best options.

Stage two: The goals of your treatment will be discussed and assessed before you have your teeth, bite and gums analysed by a Devonshire Square Dental professional.

Stage three: You will have moulds taken of your teeth to help determine how your teeth will move over the course of the treatment. A treatment plan will then be mapped out for you and your customised Inman Aligner will be created. Once this is done your Inman Aligner will need to be worn for 16-20 hours per day to ensure optimum tooth movement.

What are the advantages of the Inman Aligner?

There are a number of different advantages that come with the Inman Aligner, which include:

  • Only one aligner is used, make treatment easier and cheaper.
  • They can be removed easily so you can eat and brush your teeth as usual.
  • The Inman Aligner achieves some of the fastest results of any brace system and patients can have the look they want in 8-16 weeks.

Invisible Fixed Braces with Social 6 STB Braces at a London Dentist

May 31st, 2012

Despite the necessity of braces to correct problems such as gaps in teeth or crooked teeth, many people may feel self-conscious about wearing metal braces. This is where the STB Social 6 braces can help. The wires and brackets used allow for the best and most effective treatment, but unlike traditional braces, the wires are placed on the lingual side (the back) of the teeth, meaning that the brace cannot be seen.

The thinnest, flattest wires are used, meaning the brace will also feel much less uncomfortable than traditional braces, although as with any brace, there will be some very mild discomfort as your mouth adjusts to the new device.

The STB Social 6 braces also allow for much shorter treatment time – treatment can be complete in as little as six weeks, although a period of sixteen weeks is more usual. This is still relatively fast for braces treatment. Oral hygiene is also much easier than is the case with traditional metal braces.

What is the procedure for treatment with STB Social 6 braces?

After a consultation to discuss your aims and your suitability for STB Social 6 braces, a mould is taken of your teeth. This is sent off to the laboratory to design and create individual braces suited to your mouth. The brackets of the braces will then be fitted, using one or two wires, which unravel to allow for a good fit in the mouth.

The brackets are ‘self-litigating’, and thus can move as your teeth change position, so you will not require as many trips to the dentist as you perhaps would with other brace systems. However, in order to ensure that treatment is going well, and that essential oral hygiene is being maintained perfectly, a few dental trips are recommended.
